8 STEPS TO CHECKING YOUR OIL

1. Grab a lint-free rag (an old t-shirt works great).
2. Read the Owner's Manual to locate the dipstick under your hood.
3. Warm-up your car by taking it for a spin around the block (it's best to check the oil when it's warm).
4. Turn off your car.
5. Prop the hood up.
6. Locate and remove the dipstick, which is usually on the left of the engine and has a yellow or orange circular handle.
7. Clean the dipstick with your rag and reinsert it all the way back into the oil pan.
8. Remove the dipstick again to inspect.

It should be easy to determine the oil level because there is usually a line that marks "full" or a textured area on the dipstick that represents the oil pan's capacity. If your oil level is normal, simply reinsert it.

If you find that your oil level is low, touch the end of the dipstick and feel the texture of the oil. If the oil is gritty, then have your oil changed ASAP. But if it is smooth and clean, then simply add more oil using a funnel.
