Main Benefits of Using OEM Parts on your Chevrolet

Keeping up on routine car maintenance saves you money by preventing problems or identifying them early. This is especially true with your Chevrolet's motor oil, which is basically the lifeblood of your engine. It cleans, lubricates, and cools all the internal parts so your vehicle runs as efficiently as possible for as long as possible.

How to Check the Oil in Your Chevrolet

Fresh oil prevents overheating and excess wear while improving the efficiency, performance, and longevity of your car. The oil in most models has to be changed every 3000 miles for conventional oil users and 7500 miles for synthetic oil users.

You can easily check to see if your oil levels have become too low or dirty in between regular oil changes by using these 8 simple steps so your Chevy runs optimally through the roads of New Bern, Jacksonville, or wherever your adventures take you.

8 Steps to Checking Your Oil

  1. Grab a lint-free rag (an old t-shirt works great).
  2. Read the Owner's Manual to locate the dipstick under your hood.
  3. Warm-up your car by taking it for a spin around the block (it's best to check the oil when it's warm).
  4. Turn off your car.
  5. Prop the hood up.
  6. Locate and remove the dipstick, which is usually on the left of the engine and has a yellow or orange circular handle.
  7. Clean the dipstick with your rag and reinsert it all the way back into the oil pan.
  8. Remove the dipstick again to inspect.

It should be easy to determine the oil level because there is usually a line that marks "full" or a textured area on the dipstick that represents the oil pan's capacity. If your oil level is normal, simply reinsert it.

If you find that your oil level is low, touch the end of the dipstick and feel the texture of the oil. If the oil is gritty, then have your oil changed ASAP. But if it is smooth and clean, then simply add more oil using a funnel.

See? Super easy! Checking your oil is one of the quickest and simplest ways for you to care for the health of your vehicle. It's well worth the few minutes it takes to perform a check.
